Four major awards in 5 years
Prof. Dr. Göktuğ Karpat, Faculty Member at Department of Physics, Faculty of Arts and Science, Izmir University of Economics (IUE) has been awarded the ‘100th Anniversary TUBITAK Incentive Award’, regarded as one of Turkey's most prestigious science awards. Having gained a respected place in the field of physics with his successful studies at the international level, Prof. Dr. Karpat received his award from President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan at the ceremony held at Beştepe National Congress and Culture Center.
Prof. Dr. Karpat, who was awarded the Distinguished Young Scientist Award by the Turkish Academy of Sciences in 2018, the Young Scientists Award of the Science Academy in 2019, and the ‘Research Incentive Award’ by the METU Parlar Foundation this year, has achieved national success for the fourth time in 5 years.
The Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TUBITAK) has meticulously examined the ‘science awards’ given to support scientific studies in different fields. Prof. Dr. Karpat attracted the attention of the jury with his studies, projects he has carried out so far and his articles that have managed to receive many citations.
AMONG 18 SCIENTISTS
Prof. Dr. Karpat, 39, who focuses his academic studies on fundamental physics topics such as open quantum systems theory, quantum information theory and quantum correlations, was among the 18 scientists who were awarded the 100th Anniversary Incentive Award by TUBITAK. Prof. Dr. Karpat was also entitled to receive a research support of 1 million 250 thousand liras to be used in scientific studies.
I AM VERY HAPPY
Stating that he was happy to receive such a meaningful award in the 100th anniversary of the Republic, Prof. Dr. Karpat said, “As a basic science researcher, I am very pleased to see that my work is valued and appreciated by impartial authorities. The name of the incentive awards given annually by TUBITAK has been changed to the ‘100th Anniversary TUBITAK Incentive Award’ in honor of the centennial of the Republic founded by Mustafa Kemal Atatürk. The fact that the award I received coincided with such a meaningful year in which we celebrate the Republic made me very happy. I would like to thank everyone who deemed me worthy of this award.”
